DAILY REPORT
– The Buffalo Bills and Legacy®, a national public health foundation, teamed up for the 2011 NFL season to help fans live longer, healthier lives by promoting EX®, the national quit smoking campaign developed by Legacy. Each November marks Lung Cancer Awareness Month, a time for all Americans to be reminded that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States. With the toll tobacco use takes on our families, economy and our communities in Western New York, the partnership between the Buffalo Bills and Legacy will bring free quit smoking resources to Bills fans that are looking to tackle addiction head-on.
Sports fans and smoking are often connected, and in a survey conducted by Legacy in 2009, 63 percent of sports fans identified themselves as current or former smokers; 76 percent of those current or former smokers said they had smoked while watching or attending sporting events. These results show that, collectively, fans as a group are in need of programs to help them quit smoking.
Bills wide receiver Donald Jones supports the quit smoking initiatives and is proud to speak out about the partnership. Jones’ grandfather has a smoking-related lung disease, and Donald played a role in helping his grandfather quit smoking a few years ago.
“It is important to help fans have access to the necessary resources to help them quit smoking,” said Jones. “The online quit smoking program is a great way for fans to get the assistance they need to make a positive change in their lives and become healthier. If I had this program available to me when I was trying to help my grandfather, maybe I wouldn’t have had to hide his cigarettes from him all the time!”

QUOTE OF THE DAY
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick
On if he’s sensing any of the buzz that is generating with Sunday’s game:
This is a big game. I think to say it’s any bigger than any other one it is bigger in the sense that it is a division game. I think the Patriots game in the beginning of the year being a division game was probably as big. But if you want to be playoff team you’ve got to win games in your division.

Longest streak now Buffalo’s
In ending their 15-game losing streak to the New England Patriots, the Buffalo Bills not only ended the longest current win streak by one NFL club over another, they also now own the longest current winning streak over an opponent.
The Patriots’ 15-game streak was the longest current active streak in the league, until it was broken Sunday in Buffalo’s 34-31 win over New England. The longest one is now Buffalo’s current win streak over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Buffalo has won 10 in a row against Cincinnati dating back to the AFC Championship game on Jan. 8th, 1989. Buffalo has won 10 straight since then, and ironically face the Bengals in Cincinnati this coming Sunday.

NOTABLE POSTGAME QUOTES
Head Coach Chan Gailey
On the team being vastly improved: “I think where we are right now, all those people that thought we were as bad as they thought we were, we’re not. And there’s going to be a lot of people that are going to put us up on a little bit of a pedestal and we’re not there yet. So, you have to understand that. I told the team that. I do think we’re improved over last year. I thought we would play well. I believe in our men, and they went out and did some very good things today. It started with the opening kickoff. It set the tempo. It was a good football game for our football team.”
On how critical it was to force and recover a fumble on the opening kickoff: “Huge. You can never minimize how important a play like that is, and to then go put it in the end zone on top of that. That was big not to settle for a field goal there.”
On whether the defense was that good or the Chiefs were having an off day: “I’m going to say we were better, okay? Let’s say that right now, and then if I watch the film and see something different, we’ll talk about it Monday. I think our guys are taking a lot of pride in being a good run defense right now. We’ve emphasized it, we’ve made a big deal about it, they want to be good against the run and I thought it was good to be able to go out there and play good against the run. We let them get a couple of them out of there, but I think those problems are solvable.”
On containing Kansas City RB Jamaal Charles: “You’ve just got to have a lot of hats to the ball, everybody play their technique, stay in their gaps and people got to whip people. We had a bunch of people that whipped people. I saw Marcell [Dareus] one time whip a guy and get across and get the cutback. Little things like that make all the difference in the world.”
On whether this is what he meant last year about being on the same page with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick: “Yeah, it really is. We made adjustments, he made them, he saw what I saw and it’s easy to make those adjustments. But still, the key to the whole thing is pass protection. I think we got sacked one time. Erik [Pears] let the guy get around the corner. We got hit maybe two more times, but other than that, Fitz was able to stand back there and see things and throw it where he needed to throw it. Pass protection was huge for us today.”
On whether he expected TE Scott Chandler to be a mismatch: “I knew that. Nobody else I don’t think did. I thought we had something in Scott Chandler that creates something good for us in the passing game. I was really proud of him. He deserves it. He works hard.”
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick
Was this encouraging for the offense in general? “Yeah, it’s encouraging. I think we knew what we had and it’s only one game, but I think it probably surprised some people for us to score that much. It helps when you get the turnovers. It’s one game, we’re ready to move forward, we’re going to enjoy it for a day because I remember how hard it was last year when we lost here. We’re certainly going to enjoy this one, then move on. I think we’ll get some good work from looking at the film and getting better. There’s still a lot of stuff that we left out there today.”
What else do you think was key, offensively? “The field position was good, that was one thing. Fred [Jackson], I think he went over the 100-yard mark; the way he ran the ball today, and just guys making plays. The big thing we harped on was scoring touchdowns in the Red Zone and I was kicking myself; the two field goals we had in the first half, those were big opportunities for us that we could have had touchdowns on. We came out and capitalized on some of those opportunities in the second half.”
How important was it that you scored after the fumble on the opening kickoff? “That was huge. Maybe that’s the difference so far this year from last year. We went in, we felt like we knew we were going in for seven when we got that turnover. It ended up happening. It was a great start to the game and really gave us some confidence.”
RB Fred Jackson
Were you running angry today? “Well, yeah, just wanted to get established early; help [Ryan Fitzpatrick]. We felt like if we could get a running game going, it allows him to make more plays for us. We did a great job protecting him. I think first and foremost, we’ve got to thank our defense. They gave us plenty of opportunities on the field today. If we have them playing like that, we’ve got to reward them.”
Did you feel that you won the physical battle across the board? “Um, yeah, that’s what we want to do. We want to come in and establish ourselves as a physical team. We feel like if we can do that, we can continue to stay on the field and make some plays.”
DE Marcell Dareus
Talk about your first sack: “My first (thought) was just get off the ball and put all the effort you can into getting the quarterback uncomfortable. Once we established that, everything else just started opening up for the defense.”
Was holding Jamaal Charles to 56-yards a win for you guys? “Yeah, that was a big step forward for our team. Last year, they said how bad our run stop was and that was a main focus of our team this year, especially the defense, just stop the run and stop Charles and do the best we can at containing him. We worked so hard during the week; it just became second nature.”
